Before we start
to involve in our fundraising, which is a charity car wash at our Faculty of
Business and Accountancy’s car park, I and my group members were directed to
gather at Dataran Zaba for a small briefing by our supervisor, Dr. Edward.
|
|

|
As we planned
earlier, we were ready to start our charity car wash with the necessary
supplies which needed for the car wash such as soap, sponges, buckets, towels
and extra. Our target on this charity car wash is to reach minimum 50 cars,
where we can use that money to buy some necessary things for Harmony Care
Centre people. (Refer Picture 4 )
|
|
9.00pm
|
We totally 10
students were divided into 2 groups, where the first group worked on finding
customers, however the second group decided to wash the cars. We also planned
to rotate our work scope after our lunch time. So for the first slot, I was
in charged on washing cars. Half of my team members were too busy on
attracting staffs and students who brought their cars to our faculty here.
Finally, we managed to get some cars and as we planned earlier we charged RM5.00
for each car.
|
|
10.00pm
|
I still remember
that a Proton Waja (WPJ8430) was my
first car where I washed for a staff at our faculty. (Refer Picture 5). I
were too excited on washing my first customer’s car and I felt like I was
given a responsibility to give back the car in a better condition plus
cleanly to that particular person. That staff gave me RM5.00 for the car
wash, thanked me and said that he really appreciated my work a lot. I just felt
so happy because I have done my first part of work successfully. I was
eagerly waiting for my following customers. Besides that, my team members
were washing their customers cars with full of dedication. I was felt like
really proud of my team members. After that, I get some cars to wash and I
done my part of work with full of excitement. The activities that we planned
was went smoothly without any problems. (Refer Picture 6)
|
|
11.30pm
|
Around this
time, we found some difficulties on finding customers for our charity car wash.
We able to find some customers but not as much as like in starting time of
our charity car wash. So we separated our jobs among us and we rotated our
works from one activity to another one. We helped each other between we had
lot of fun among us.
|
|
1.00pm
2.30pm
|
At this
particular time, we decided to stop our work and planned to have a break for
a while between to have our lunch too since I and most of my group members
felt tired and hungry. However, the Muslim male students went to Friday
prayers and the female students went to perform Zuhur prayers. While waiting
for the Muslim students, I and my non-muslim group members had our lunch at
our faculty cafe. After had my lunch, I felt like my energy itself came back
to me again and I were ready with full of energy and excitements to move on
for the next slot of the car wash.
As all of my
group members done with their prayers and had their lunch, my group leader Yu
Chong planned to change the place where we all as a team can attract more
customers to our charity car wash. So we gathered at Dataran Zaba again to
fix our next place for our car wash and we found that there are many cars at
Faculty of Economics and Administration compared to our faculty. So, we move
on to that faculty which were located beside our faculty with all the tools
and equipment. For this time, I was in charged on finding or attracting
customers for our car wash.
|
|
3.00pm
|
As my group
members know, I’m a very talkative person where I thought I can attract more
people to our charity car wash. So as I guess I managed to get more than 10
customers for our car wash. Besides that, my group members also helped me to
find some of the customers and we were too happy on it. And as we expected,
everything went well including the weather. Most of the customers gave more
than RM5.00 to us after seeing our sincere work. We still carry on with our
car wash slot even though the weather was getting worst compared to the
beginning stage, which became hotter to the maximum. With full of sincere and
dedication, we tried our best to wash the cars cleanly under the hot sun. (Refer
Picture 7). I was felt like freaking tired and was sweating due to
the hot weather. But at the same time, I felt so lucky because there was no
rain on that whole day of our fieldwork.
|
|
4.00pm
|
The weather was
not too hot as during the afternoon besides, I and some of my group members
were busily attracting some customers. Actually, we reached our target for
minimum 50 cars but we still finding for the customers to reach the maximum
numbers of cars. We managed to get two to three customers at that time and we
planned to finish our charity car wash by 5.00pm.
|
|
5.00pm
|
I was felt tired
and exhausted on that particular time but felt satisfied with the works that
I have done for the whole day. I was really happy and proud of my team
members too. Working together in the group gave me a great experience where I
proudly can say that without my group members we cannot done our charity car
wash successfully between it’s not possible to achieve our target of getting
minimum 50 cars.
|
|
5.30pm
|
Finally,
we gathered at Dataran Zaba again for a briefing and reflection session on
the fundraising event we held along with our supervisor. All of us including
our supervisor satisfied with what we have done for the whole day. I really
enjoyed having this fundraising with my group members even thought had a
tired face at last and for sure it will be a great experience and memorable
day for me.

one and half hour with full of fun.
|
11.00am
|
All the
activities went smoothly without any problems as we planned earlier. I was
given a second task, where I have to mop the floor of the living room.
Actually it’s a semi d house, so you should know how big was the living room
will be. But I never feel any tiredness or laziness to do that particular
task that given to me because I was fixed that it’s all about our social
activities and I’m sure that I won’t be involve in this kind of activities
every day. So, I decided to use this opportunity by giving my full commitment
on doing this social tasks that given to me. While moping the living hall, I
also chit chat with some old folks and were listening to their life stories
which was really touching. Actually, I didn’t expect this, but they are
really super friendly with us.
|
12.00pm
|
I managed to
finish my second task successfully by this time, besides I felt really proud
of myself and the time came where the old folks have to get their lunch. So,
I and my group members helped the person in charged or workers to serve the
foods made by the management to all old folks there. (Refer Picture 11). At
the time when we serve the food for everyone, I found that one old Chinese
man was struggling on eating food by himself. I quickly went beside him and
started to feed the food for him. I felt satisfied with the works that I have
done there.
|
12.30pm
|
Our supervisor,
Dr. Edward along with some of my group members went to buy some foods for all
of us. While waiting for our supervisor, we had some chit chat with those old

University of Malaya to perform their Zuhur prayer while I and my other
non-muslim members helped the workers to clean up the tables and wash the
plates.
|
2.30pm
|
After the Muslim
students came back from prayers, we started to continue on doing the
remaining works that we have to finish on that day. As I mentioned earlier,
I’m a very talkative person. So for the second slot after lunch, I and some
of my group members was in charged to accompany the old folks there. I were
keep on talking to every old folks and entertained them as well by telling some
jokes and dedicating some funny songs to them. I made them feel happy until
they cannot stop laughing after listening to some funny jokes and songs.
|
5.00pm
|
The time flies
so fast until we never realize that it’s already 5 o’clock. We were shocked
and I felt like want to spend even more time with them. But I have no choice
because it’s time to go back to our residential college. We almost done all
the works as we planned at the first. The management was very happy with our
works and really appreciated it a lot. After we greeted the people at that
home, we packed our things and were ready to walk back to our colleges. We
together started to take a move from that centre around 5.20pm
|
5.30pm
|
We safely
reached our hostels and get some rest for the next day activities. Even
thought, I felt tired but I was eagerly waiting for the next day for the
following activities.

ACTIVITY
|
7.30am
|
Finally, the
most awaited day has come again. I were waiting for my group members and for my
supervisor at the gate near to the Faculty of Language and Linguistic with
full of excitement. As everyone reached there, again our supervisor brief us
on the activities we planned to do for that day. After that, we started to
walk to the Harmony Care Centre like the previous day.
|
8.00am
|
At sharp 8
o’clock, we reached that centre. Without wasting any time, we quickly started
dividing the activities among us and planned to finish all the works by 5pm.
So, I was given a task to sweep outside of home as it was full with some dry
leaves. (Refer Picture 13). It really took some time to clean
everything outside the home. I and one of my group member managed to swept
and clean the outside part of the house successfully. We felt tired after
done sweeping the outside part of the home.
|
10.30am
|
As management of
that home asked us to refill detergents in the containers given for the use
in the home, so I and some of my group members busily started to do that
works. (Refer Picture 14). We were helping each other as, when one
person was filling up the detergents into the container however another
person in charged on keeping back the containers at the store of the home.
The time arrived where we have to start our main task of the day. All of my
group members directed to gather outside of the home and my group leader
split us into several groups. We separated the home as 3 parts where we need
to paint the walls of the kitchen, room and wall near the front door. Before
we start painting the walls, we together removed the desk, cupboard and
whiteboard which were near to the walls to another side.
|
12.00pm
|
It’s time for
lunch. I and my group members helped the person in charged or workers to
serve the foods made by the management to all old folks there like last time.
I take charge on feeding the food for the old man like yesterday.
|
1.00pm
|
I
had my lunch together with my group members.
|
1.30pm
|
After we took
our lunch, the Muslim students walked to Ninth Residential College,
University of Malaya to perform their Zuhur prayer while I and my other
non-muslim members helped the workers to clean up the tables and wash the
plates.
|
2.00pm
|
After the Muslim
students came back from prayers, we quickly started to paint the walls which
were divided into 3 parts. I were instructed to paint the wall which is near
the front door. (Refer Picture 15). This activities took few hours where we
had some problems like we don’t have enough brushes to paint the wall.
|
4.00pm
|
Finally, we
managed to finish our task given at this time. Painting interior walls is an
inexpensive way to dramatically change the look and feel of that Harmony Care
Centre with color. This guide walked us through the process so that our end
result became beautiful. Even though, I felt too tired after done painting
the walls, but happiness overtook me when I see the colorful walls that I
paint together with my group members and we all felt satisfied with all works
that we have done for that day. As we planned earlier, we started to spend
some time with the old folks there. We spent our time by chatting with them
before we back to our college. (Refer Picture 16). We entertained
the Harmony Care Centre people by singing some selected songs in front of
them, where we dedicated some songs for them too. (Refer Picture 17). It
was too fun when we present something for them which makes them feel happy.
They also joined us and sang some songs with us. We felt too happy and great
on having that kind of activities over there.
|
5.30pm
|
Finally, the
time came where we have to take a move from that place to our college again. Actually,
it was a great experience which gave me a great fantastic feelings after done
our social engagement project successfully. This experience was more pleasure
and it did show that doing charity works simply makes me feel better, which
were something everyone can benefit from it. We don't live in a perfect
world, and there's never going to be a perfect time to give—but there are
always people out there in need of help. So doing charity for the first ever
time as a student by this social engagement project gives me a satisfaction
which cannot be expressed at all. For
the future, I will let my friends and family know of my charitable works
along with my social engagement group members, so that they may find
themselves more motivated to undertake their own efforts to do such the
things like this. I also planned to do this kind of things for the following
years continuously.
