Beginning Phase

Date and Time	Activity
23/10/2015 10am – 12pm	First briefing by the person in charge from faculty about what is Social Engagement and what students need to do to achieve the aim of this course. I was assigned to group 10 and there are 10 members in my group. We will have the same activity with group 9. Our supervisor is Associate Professor Dr. Edward Wong Sek Khin. He then brief us and choose leader and secretary from each group. I was selected as the leader for my group and we started our discussion about our mission and vision roughly.
5/11/2015 6pm – 8pm	We have a meeting in Dataran Zaba to discuss what activity to do in order to achieve the aim of this Social Engagement. Every members did to give their opinion like going old folks home or orphanage home. We also think to distribute food to those homeless people around the Petaling Jaya area. We listed out the possible places to go and the problem that we might faced for each of the plan. And the end of the meeting, we decided to visit to Care One Centre, which is a orphanage home in Section 16, Petaling Jaya.
19/11/2015 6pm – 8pm	We have a meeting in Dataran Zaba, FPP. This meeting aimed to discuss about our proposal regarding what are the things we need to list in our proposal so that we know what can we do during our Social Engagement.
23/11/2015 5pm – 7pm	We have a meeting with our supervisor, Dr. Edward regarding our plan. He agreed to that and taught us how to do the proposal so that we can get the permission from the person in charge of Care One Centre, including the date, time and what can we contribute to the centre, all these had listed clearly in our proposal.
26/11/2015 5pm – 7pm	We have a meeting to finalise our proposal, and then we submitted to Dr. Edward for checking. Dr. Edward remarks our proposal and asked us to submit to the person in charge of the centre via the emails given by them.
4/12/2015 11.30am – 1pm	We discussed with Dr. Edward regarding what to do for the fund-raising. We listed out all alternatives that we can do for our fund-raising and choose the most suitable one that suits to our condition. We also set the venue, date and time for our fund-raising.
14/12/2015 12pm – 2pm	Secretary and I dealed with the person in charge from Care One Centre. They have a small briefing with us about how many old folks are there, what can we do for them and what we need to aware of. We also told them that we will donate something like rice, standing fans and so on to the centre. All money that we used are contributions from the car wash and those willing to donate to the old folks.
15/12/2015 5pm – 6pm	We have a small meeting with Dr. Edward regarding the confirmation of venue, date and time for the visit to Care One Centre. We also discussed the plan for our fund-raising which is car wash. The fund-raising was carried out in our faculty and our target are those students and lecturers in our faculty on 26/2/2016. We also planned to collect RM5 for each car wash and we will request donation from them purposely to donate to Care One Centre.
23/2/2015 4pm – 6pm	We have a discussion on what tools we needed to prepare for our car wash. Our plan is to buy pails, soap, sponge and some 5.5litre water bottles. Our plan was considered to our budgets which were contributed around RM5 by each of our group members. After the discussion, Dr. Edward brought the leader and secretary from each group to buy those tools.
25/2/2015 4pm – 6pm	We finalised our plan on fund-raising and I assigned jobs to each our group members so that they knew what are their role during the fund-raising. We also set the place and the time that we needed to gather which is in front of Graduate School of Business. All the tools that we had prepared was put in Dr. Edward office.

First day of Social Engagement – Fund raising

26/2/2016

Time	Activity
8.00am	We gathered at in front of Graduate School of Business. Dr. Edward have a short briefing with us about what we need to do and what to be aware of. We moved out all the tools from his office to there.
9.00am	I separated my group into two, one group aimed to wash the cars and another group acts to refilled the water into the pails that we had prepared. Both of these groups will take turns to exchange their roles. Our group secretary acts to record all the cars that we had washed and ask for donations from each of the car owners.
10.00am	After one hour is over, our group has recorded some cars. But it still not fulfill our targets. We also worried that we will get less cars because at that time, not many lecturers appear with cars. Another reason was that day is Friday, there was no lecture class during the day, so less cars is coming. While they were washing the cars, Secretary and I are having a small discussion to change our plan. We tried to spot any area in this Faculty which has more customers.
12.00pm	At that time, our group have achieved almost half of our targets. We planned to have our lunch in the cafeteria at FPP.
1.00pm	After having our lunch, for the muslims they go for their prayers while the others have to continue our work.
2.30pm	At that time, the muslims all came back from their prayers. I separated our group into two groups. One group stayed at Graduate School of Business while another group went to Dataran Zaba’s car parking lots to find customers.
3.30pm	We got at around 10 cars around the Dataran Zaba. Some lecturers are very kind-hearted to donate money to us.
4.30pm	We almost reached our targets and we found that there is much less car coming to the faculty.
5.00pm	Our group members started to clean and clear up our tools. We kept the pails back to Dr Edward’s office. We are all felt very tired but all satisfy what we have done today. We also appreciated to those car owners and enthusiastic person.
5.30pm	We have a reflection section in Dataran Zaba. Our group members shared their thoughts and feelings during the car wash. I gave a small briefing about the visit for the next day. I informed them the venue and time to gather and we will walk together to the centre as it is located near to 9th college.

Second day of Social Engagement

27/2/2016

Time	Activity
7.30am	Before we departed to the Care One Centre, we gathered at the gate near Faculty Language and Linguistic. While waiting Dr. Edward’s arrival, we have small talk among ourselves. After Dr. Edward reached, he briefs us some important matter like what we need to take care of. After that, we went to the centre by foot.
8.00am	After arrived the centre, we met with the person in charge of the centre. She is a auntie who acts to prepare meals for the old folks. She told us what we need to do and asked us to talk to the old folks.
10.00am	I assigned my group members to do the jobs given. Some of them went to clean the drains, some swept and mop the floor inside the centre, some went chatting with the old folks and the else washed the surroundings of the centre. I acts as a cameraman to record what they have done and sometimes helped to clean up the rubbish. My group secretary followed Dr. Edward to buy the things which were donated to the centre.
12.00pm	At that time, we have a small break. More of us went to concern and talk to the old folks. They are all Chinese and some of them have diseases. Not all of them were abandoned by their children, some of their children go for working, so their children placed them there for nursing. Some of the old folks still be able to walk around, but some are just be able to lay on their bed because theu have problem on moving. Actually the situation is quite sad when we saw those old folks was feeling suffer on their bed.
1.00pm	This was the time where all the old folks will having their lunch. There have a bing and long table where can fix around 10 people. Dr. Edward got packed our lunch when they went out to buy all those rice and standing fans. While having our lunch, we did chat with the old folks also and watched television programme.
2.00pm	We continued to talk to the old folks and the muslims went for their prayers.
3.00pm	Some of the old folks took a nap at this time. So, some of us take a small break and some were watching television programme.
4.00pm	The old folks will have a tea time at this time. The auntie cooked some desserts to them and she also prepared more to treat us.
5.00pm	We were almost to leave. We keep our things properly and we walked back to our own residential college. The old folks were seems to see us again and we promised them we will coming back tomorrow.
5.30pm	We arrived UM and have a small briefing for tomorrow. All of us seems very tired but happy on what we had done for the whole day.

Third day of Social Engagement

28/2/2016

Time	Activity
7.30am	Same as yesterday, we gathered at the gate near Faculty Language and Linguistic before we departing to the Care One Centre. After everyone is reached, we walked to the centre.
8.00am	The old folks seems very happy when we saw us were coming back again. We started our jobs immediately because we already knew what we need to do during this morning. I assigned my group members with the jobs that different from yesterday so that they have another new experience.
10.00am	The auntie bought a pail of paint which is blue colour. She asked us to paint the wall for in front of the living room and behind of the kitchen. It was a good and new experience for those who never try to paint at their own. My group members take turns to paint before there was lack of brushes. But everyone did to try to do so. Others went to talk to the old folks.
12.00pm	At this time, we stopped our jobs and have a small rest. Some of us went to talk to the old folks home. The wall is now half painted but we will continue to do it after lunch.
1.00pm	This is the time where the old folks having their lunch. Same as yesterday, we ate food that packed by Dr. Edward.
2.00pm	We continued our painting after our lunch. The muslims were all went for their prayers. After we finished painting in front of the living room. We went to the kitchen to continue painting. Behind the kitchen, there is a space to store things. The wall at that place are all very worst. Some of us did continue our painting while the others went to talk to the old folks.
3.00pm	We almost finish our painting. Some of us take a short break and some of us continue the left painting. Some of the old folks went fot a nap while the others watched television programme.
4.00pm	The old folks have a tea time at this time. We were also treated by the auntie to have the tea time together with the old folks. She prepared extra food to us for appreciating our help in these two days.
5.00pm	We started to keep our belongings and took photos with the old folks. Feling of sadness came to our minds as we gonna to leave them and well we have good and valuable memories with all of them. Although some of them can’t recognized us, but I believe they can feel our kind-hearted.
5.30pm	We farewell to them and the auntie as well and walked back to UM. We have a small briefing for the next meeting for preparation of our reports.

Ending Phase

1/3/2016 2pm – 3pm	After our last visit, we have a small meeting in Dataran Zaba. This meeting aimed to collect all the photos that have been taken in the centre and also a sharing session from our group members. We share about our thought and feelings about the visits.
4/3/2016 3pm – 4.30pm	We have a meeting with Dr. Edward regarding the report for our Social Engagement. He briefs us about the contents of the report and teaches us how to do it.
10/3/2016 4pm – 6pm	We prepare our report roughly and follow up the report to the supervisor. Every group memebrs give their opinion on how to do the report.
16/3/2016 5pm – 7pm	We have a discussion among our group members to finalise the report.
24/3/2016 4pm – 6pm	We have a meeting with the supervisor regarding the first version of our report. .He remark our report and ask us to do corrections for any mistakes that we had made in the report.
1/4/2016 4pm – 6pm	We have a meeting among the group members to follow up the report and make corrections for which the parts needed.
5/4/2016 6pm – 7pm	Amendment report with Dr. Edward in his office. He also brief about the journal that we need to do and ask us to prepare our journal for the whole preparation and the visit to centre.
21/4/2016 5pm – 6.30pm	We finalise our report and make sure there is no mistakes and spelling error in our report.
5/5/2016 4pm – 6pm	We show the report and journal to Dr. Edward for last checking.
18/5/2016 5pm – 6.30pm	Dr. Edward briefs us about the presentation which will be carried out on 25/5/2016.
