Members of group 10 get together and listen to a
briefing regarding to the registration and grouping of course social engagement.
After all, we had a 2 hours meeting within our group 10 and also with Dr
Edward as well as group 9 members. We had assigned positions like leader,
secretary and treasurer to suitable members. we also created a “whatsapp”
conversation group so that we can contact each other easier.

We had a meeting among members of group 10. We start to plan the
timeline and what event should be carried out in order to meet our vision and
mission of social engagement. Everyone gives their opinions and discussion
had been made.

|
In the second meeting, we discuss on details of preparing a proposal.
We had decided to have a car wash as fundraising so that we can collect some
funds. The purpose of fundraising is to buy some daily needs to old folk home
where we are going to visit on February 2016. Hence, we contacted some
selected old folks home nearby. Proposal is in progress to boost the
confirmation of venue. (refer picture 2)

We meet again to confirm some details of proposal so that we can speed
up the process of finalising the proposal. We also asked for supervisor’s
opinions and suggestions when we faced problems.

A complete proposal had been done and submitted to our supervisor.
Hence, the proposal is ready to be sent to the Person In Charge of old folk
home whenever they need the proposal. We never stop on contacting potential
venue that is willing to let us do our social engagement.

|
Finally, we got an old folk home named Care 1 Centre where allowed us
to do the volunteer work in huge amount of people there, that is 20 of us.
The Care 1 Centre is near to University of Malaya which is definitely a good
new to us. Then, we start planning the schedule of event and confirm dates
that we are going to visit the Care 1 Centre.

We went to the Care 1 Centre and deal with the Person In Charge about
the date and activity that we planned earlier. Proposal and confirmation
letter also being issued to them via email. Not only that, we also asked for
old folks’ needs and wants so that we have ideas about what to buy to them
after the fundraising section. (refer picture 3)

|
After getting the confirmation later that approving the visit from the
manager of Care 1 Centre, we had a meeting with Dr Edward to confirm the
venue of our visit. We also discussed some details of fundraising which will
be falling on 26 February 2016.

|
After double confirm about the car wash two days later, Dr Edward
fetched a few of us including me to supermarket nearby to buy some tools that
are needed. RM5 are collected from each group members as distribution to this
event.

|
This was our last meeting before the implementation of our plan. We
meet up to finalise and discuss the plan. There will be a car wash activity
at the Faculty of Business and Accountancy’s car park on 26 February 2016. Besides,
we also discussed about details when visiting old folks home such as where
should we gather and what to bring on that day.

26/2/2016 (Day 1)
Car wash - fundraising

|
We gathered at Dataran Za’ba. After briefing and getting tools like
pail and cloth, we moved to the car park near the canteen.
|
8.30am
|
After a small briefing, we start our work on car washing. We had
arranged our job respectively. For example, applying water soap on cars,
attracting customers, refilling pails with water and so on. As a secretary of
group 10, I also in charged of recording the car plate number and collect
money from customers. (refer picture 3)

11.00am
|
We received some orders from lecturers and continued working. We also
never forget on snapping pictures as a proving of doing this car wash job as
fundraising. All members worked together in order to reach the target of
washing 50 cars. (refer picture 4,5)

12.00pm
|
It has been getting hotter and hotter. However, we never complaint
about anything because we know that donation that we collected will be given
to old folks. (refer picture 6)

|
All the Muslim group members had to go to their prayer at this hour.
While waiting for the Muslim group members, we had our lunch and rest.
|
2.30pm
|
After a small break, we become energetic again. We planned to change
our strategic of car washing. We separated into two groups where some will
stay at the same place to wait for new customers whereas some will move to
another place to look for potential customers.

3.30pm
|
Our strategic seems work since that we can still receive orders in
this hour. Some kind lecturers are willing to pay more than the original
price of car washing after they know that we are going to donate out the fund
we collected to old folk home.
|
4.00pm
|
Then, all of us had moved to faculty of economics because we found
that there are many lecturers entered into that area to look for parking
place. (refer picture 7,8)

|
When the number of car being washed by the group getting nearer to our
target, we worked even faster and harder. It was not easy since that most of
us start feeling tired.

5.30pm

Then, we cleaned up tools after reaching our target. We returned tools
to the supervisor and had a short briefing before we got back to our hostel.
Everyone talked on their feeling and reflection after long hours of car
washing.

|
It was a bit tiring but we determined to finish up our works because
funds we collected will be used to buy daily needs for senior citizens in
Care 1 Centre, Petaling Jaya. I felt glad to have a team of members where are
corporative as well as helpful.

27/2/2016 (Day 2) -Visit to Care 1 Centre

|
This was the first day of visiting to Care 1 Centre. We departed from
our hostel respectively and gathered in front of the gate. After a short briefing
from Dr Edward, we walked to the Care 1 Centre which is near to our
University of Malaya. (refer picture 9,10)

8.30am
|
We talked on our plan later along the walk to the Care 1 Centre. We
could not wait to see senior citizens in the Care 1 Centre.
|
9.00am
|
Finally we reached the Care 1 Centre. The Person In Charge directed us
to place down our begs and briefed us about what can we do later on. Besides,
she also distributed cleaning tools like mops, brooms, cloths and so on to us
so that we can start up our job. (refer picture 11)

10.00am
|
We divided ourselves into two groups before we start our activity. One
group cleaned the garden of the centre while another group did the cleaning
stuff in the centre. I was in charged of cleaning the surrounding of the
centre. We worked together and ensure everyone had their own job. (refer
picture 12,13)

11.00am
|
Group leader of group 9 and me were assigned to buy lunch for our
group members. Hence, I collected money from members and followed Dr Edward’s
car and went for buying lunch.

12.00pm
|
After buying lunch, we went to a KK Mart and looked for daily needs
that can be bought to senior citizens in Care 1 Centre. We had bought rice,
cooking oil, diapers and fan for them. The money spent were from fund that collected
during car wash day.

It was lunch time. I helped on dividing food to our group members.
Then, we took some rest and had our lunch. Muslim group members went to their
prayer at Ninth Residential College after the lunch. Chinese and Indian group
members stayed in the centre and helped the workers to clean the dining room
and washed the dishes after the old folks finished their food. (refer picture
14)

|
We spent time with senior citizens in the Care 1 Centre since that
they were free and spiritual. We talked to them and listened to their
stories. Sometimes, listening is more important than speaking. They really
need someone who is willing to listen to them. Some senior citizens thanked
us on our patience when listening to them.

|
Then, we continued on our volunteer works like cleaning the garage and
also the owners’ car since that most of old folks were going to have their
nap.

|
After returning tools to the Person In Charge, we started distributing
daily needs that we bought to the Care 1 Centre. The manager of Care 1 Centre
accepted it with pleasure and took photos with our group members as well as
the supervisor. (refer picture 15,16)

5.30pm
|
After that, we bid farewell to workers, old folks, person in charge
and manager of Care 1 Centre before we went back. Supervisor also briefed us
about the job scope on the next day of visit to the Care 1 Centre. We also
had a small meeting among our group to share our reflections and feelings
throughout the day. Then, we walked back to our residential college in group.

Finally we got back to our residential college.

28/2/2016 (Day 2) – Visit to the Care 1 Centre

|
As day 1 of visit to the Care 1 Centre, we departed from our hostel
respectively and gathered in front of the gate. After a short briefing from
Dr Edward, we walked to the Care 1 Centre.

On the way to the Care 1 Centre.

|
After arriving Care 1 Centre, we directly started up our job on
cleaning the compound of Care 1 Centre. I was assigned to sweep the floor
because I had got familiar with this job since that I did the same job on the
first day. It helped to speed up the process of work.

|
Then, I cleared the drain with my group members. I cleaned every
single rubbish or leaf that were in the drain so that it would not get
clogged and cause flood one day. (refer picture 19)

11.00am
|
As the first day of visit, I still in charge of the lunch of our group
members. Hence, Dr Edward sent us to the restaurant to take away food as our
lunch.
|
12.00pm
|
When I returned to the Care 1 Centre, I helped on preparing food for
senior citizens in the kitchen. Some of us also helped on feeding those
senior citizens.
|
1.00pm
|
After all senior citizens had finished their food, it was our turn to
have our lunch. We stopped the work and took some rest. Muslim group members
went to their prayer at Ninth Residential College after the lunch. Chinese
and Indian group members stayed in the centre and helped the workers to clean
the dining room and wash the dishes.

2.30pm
|
Then, I joined my members on painting which they had started to paint
earlier when I went out to buy the lunch. The manager of Care 1 Centre had
supplied paint that in sky blue. After few hours of painting, the appearance
of Care 1 Centre was getting nicer and brighter. The manager and senior
citizens in the Care 1 Centre were satisfied with our work. (refer picture20, 21, 22)

Then, I also helped on replacing the bed sheet which was dirty into a
new and clean bed sheet. Some senior citizens felt happy with the changing of
bed sheet because they would feel cleaner and more comfortable. (refer
picture 23)

4.30pm
|
The group leader of group 9 and I grabbed the opportunity to ask the
manager of Care 1 Centre to check on our attendance of doing volunteer work.
Then, the manager even offered an appreciate letter to us to thank for our
help. It shocked me as I never expected to receive such letter because we are
all volunteer to help. (refer picture 24)

|
We performed a simple song to senior citizens and they seem happy to
hear that. After the performance and some chit chat with senior citizens, we
took photos with them in the Care 1 Centre before we left. We were very happy
to lend a helping hand at Care 1 Centre. I felt glad to help on improving senior citizens’
quality of life and bring happiness to them. It was definitely a great
experience.

We met up to collect photos that had taken during fundraising as well
as visit to the Care 1 Centre. Besides, group members also advised to upload
photos to our “facebook” closed group so that everyone can download it
easily. It can help us complete our report faster.

We discussed about details that should be had in the report. Main
points and opinions had been noted as references while doing the report.

We met up with the supervisor and show him our draft of report. Dr
Edward commented some parts of the report and assigned us to start doing a
journal which was related to our reflections on this social engagement
course.

We had a discussion session among group members to update the progress
of the report doing.

|
We met up with supervisor to show him the progress of our report
version 1 and discuss the part we had not done. Some amendment about the
report need to be done.

We had a group discussion with group members and follow up the
amendment of the report. We also start creating a blogspot where need to
upload our updated full report as well as journal.

We met up with supervisor and showed him the version 2 of report which
had been amended. Besides, supervisor also concerned about the progress of
our journal.

The report had been finalised since that all members had no objections
on it. As the secretary of group 10, I had compiled all parts of journal from
each member. Hence, we met up to check up for journals (refer picture 31)

We showed the report and journals to supervisor. He was satisfied with
our work. He briefed us about details of presentation. A CD and slide should
be ready during the presentation. Besides, softcopy and hardcopy of report
and journals also needed.

We met up to have a briefing about the presentation. All work had been
sent it to me and I will do the compile job. (refer picture 32)
