PHASE1 – BEFORE
Before
I joined the activities set by our group ( car wash and visiting the old-folks
home ),I have no idea what to expect and I thought it will be a hassle for me
to participate along. I rarely joined activities set up by the university and I
usually were very hasten to join any activities. However I’ve decided to kept
an open mind and pray that they won’t be any problem arriving throughout the
3-days program and hoping for the best.

5.0 REPORT OF THE PROJECT
5.a
BACKGROUND
Care 1 Centre is committed to serve
the humanity and making the life easier for senior citizens. It located in No.30
Jalan Section 16/1, 46350 Petaling Jaya. Care 1 Centre aimed to care for the
aged, physically and mentally retarded senior citizens. They would like to improve
the quality of life and build self-confidence for them.

OBJECTIVES
i.
To work as a volunteer
-
To clean up and beautify the Care 1 Centre
by painting, mopping, sweeping floor and so on
ii.
To provide the daily needs for senior
citizen
-
To give donation of oil, rice, diapers and
fans to the Care 1 Centre
iii.
To organize activities for old folks in
Care 1 Centre nursing home
-
To bring happiness to old folks by having
some fun activities like singing and stories sharing

CHALLENGES
It’s not
easy to get an old folks home that is welcoming us as well as near to our
campus.
We tried to convince and deal with the person in
charge before they agree to let us carry on
activities in the Care 1 Centre.

i. To aid senior citizens and old folks by
improving their quality of life.
ii. To cheer old folks up and let them feel the
warmness and kindness from the
community.
iii. To communicate with
old folks and have more interactions with them

ACHIEVEMENT
i.
Senior citizens’ quality of life had been improved
ii. The students experienced volunteering
and got the chance to serve society
iii.
Students got the awareness about social responsibility towards senior citizens.

Before the activity, our group members felt excited
and can’t wait to visit the senior citizens in the Care 1 Centre, Petaling
Jaya.
After the activity, we all agreed that this is a
memorable visit because all senior citizens are enthusiastically and friendly.
We really enjoy spending time on them.

considered as our cost savings.

CONCLUSION
From this activity, both university students and
senior citizen in Care 1 centre gained
mutual benefits. By having variety of communications, quality of life of old
folks had been improved. Students also gained precious experience through this
project. Students had learned some skills of associate, communicate and be
patient with old folks. Besides, we would like to thank you all of lecturers
and students that had involved in our fundraising program. Their kindness is
highly appreciated. We also appreciate efforts that had been put in by our
supervisor, Dr Edward Wong Sek Khin.
In conclude, both sides gained benefits from this project.
